USAC Level 2 Clinic: Metrorock Climbing Centers: December 6th and 7th, 2010
Metrorock Climbing Centers, past venue for USAC Youth and Adult Sport Climbing Nationals, will be host of the first USAC Level 2 Routesetting Clinic held on the east coast. This clinic has a competition-specific instructional format designed to train, test, and certify routesetters, specifically to set for USAC Regional and Divisional level events (ABS and SCS), with specific emphasis on on-sight routesetting for both bouldering and sport climbing. If you are a Level 1 Certified setter, or have significant experience setting Regional/Divisional Level USAC events and can work a minimum of V5/5.12 - this clinic will help you advance your competition setting skills for both youth and adults.
Chris Danielson and Mike Helt will be the instructors of this clinic. Both veterans of USA Climbing competition routesetting, they have most recently set for the Unified Bouldering Championships, and were both Chief Routesetters of major events in 2010. Chris Danielson, based in Boulder, Colorado, has developed much of the clinic and certification program for USA Climbing and works as an independent consultant and sales rep in the climbing gym market. Mike Helt, also one of the most accomplished routesetters in the US, lives in Portland, Oregon and sets regularly for major competitions in his home region and beyond, while also running the website www.routesetter.com.
This clinic is two full days and the cost is $300.00. A $39 USAC Routesetter Annual Membership is also mandatory, and if you are not already a member, you may also purchase the membership online while registering. Successful participants in the clinic will receive Level 2 Certification with endorsements based on their performance in one or more of the competition areas – Youth Bouldering, Adult Bouldering, Youth Sport, and Adult Sport.
Participation is capped at 10 and as we may have more interested participants than there are available spots for, we will have a brief application to determine clinic participants. Please download this form, complete, and send to Chris Danielson directly at cdanielson@gthi.com – applications will be reviewed on a first-come first-served basis with Level 1 applicants taking precedence, and accepted applicants will be provided a link to the USAC registration page. With any questions regarding this clinic, contact Chris Danielson directly at cdanielson@gthi.com.
