USAC Level 1 Clinic:  Rise Up Climbing Gym:  July 17th and 18th, 2010

National Routesetter Mike Helt will be instructing this Level 1 USAC Clinic.  Learn the basics of competition routesetting, and improve skills and techniques for commercial setting.  Level 1 Clinics cover bouldering and roped terrain, focusing on techniques for efficient routesetting, theory and tools to understand and create climbing movement effectively, and introductory tricks and tips for competition routesetting.

In the enormous new gym in San Diego, California, Mesa Rim Climbing Center, leading National Routesetter Chris Danielson will be instructing this Level 1 USAC Clinic.  This clinic is a unique chance to work in a brand new facility, learn the basics of competition routesetting, and improve skills and techniques for commercial setting.  Level 1 Clinics cover bouldering and roped terrain, focusing on techniques for efficient routesetting, theory and tools to understand and create climbing movement effectively, and introductory tricks and tips for competition routesetting.

USAC Level 2 Clinic:  Movement Climbing and Fitness:  May 11^th and 12^th, 2010

This Level 2 Clinic, the first hosted at the new Boulder, Colorado mega-gym, Movement, is a competition-specific instructional clinic designed to train, test, and certify routesetters, specifically to set for ABS Regional and SCS Divisional level events.  If you are a Level 1 Certified setter, or have significant experience setting Regional/Divisional Level USAC events and can work a minimum of V5/5.12 - this clinic will help you advance your competition setting skills for both youth and adults.

The Open setters did a great job putting on another spectacular show for the pro-climbers and the spectators.  They set a varied style of problems that ranged from super-slab to super-thug with some drama thrown in for fun.

The Youth setters worked hard all week to set problems that tested the every category.  Again they pushed the supposed  limits of what these young climbers can accomplish, from “rose jumps” for the D’s and slab-tech for the Jr’s.

The setting crew wants to thank Sportrock for hosting such a great event and all the sponsors and volunteers that make it all possible.

Youth Chief Setter Mike Helt is looking for 3 assistants, 1 apprentice and 1 intern to fill out his setting crew for the event.  All applicants must be able to work a minimum of V6 with a higher priority to those setters that can work V8 - V10.

Not just thugs should apply though. The Chief needs setters with on-sight and youth setting experience as well as the ability to work like a dog for seven days straight.  To find the full details and requirements go to the Certification page.  To find the applications visit the Comps page.

USAC National Chief Routesetter, Keven Branford is looking for a capable and motivated setter to fill the position of Intern.  Requirements include:

• Level 2 Regional Certification
• Experience setting two or more USAC Regional/Divisional events
• Ability to work a minimum of 5.12a and V6

Then go to the Comps page to download the Intern application form and return it to Chief Branford  by November 15th, 2009 for a chance to be at the top of American setting.

Level 2 Clinic:  Clubsport Climbing Gym

September 26th and 27th December 5th and 6th, at Clubsport in Portland, Oregon, this Level 2 USAC Clinic is a competition-specific clinic designed to train, test, and certify setters, specifically to set for ABS Regional and SCS Divisional level events.  If you are a Level 1 Certified setter, or have experience setting Regional/Divisional Level USAC events and can work a minimum of V5/5.12 - this clinic will help you advance your competition setting skills for both youth and adults.  USAC National Setters Chris Danielson and Molly Beard will be instructing this clinic.

This clinic is two full days and the cost is $300.00.  A $39 USAC Routesetter Annual Membership is also mandatory, and if you are not already a member, you may also purchase the membership online.  Successful participants in the clinic will receive Level 2 Certification with endorsements in one or more of the competition areas – Youth Bouldering, Adult Bouldering, Youth Sport, and Adult Sport.

This Level 1 Routesetting Clinic is scheduled for October 3rd and 4th at Edgeworks in Tacoma, Washington and instructed by USAC National Routesetter Mike Helt.
